Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu – All Progressive Congress Presidential Candidate
A few months ago, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu won the APC presidential ticket and as a result, is set to contest for the seat of the number one citizen of Nigeria in the coming 2024 general elections. His running mate, Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno state, will be his Vice President if he wins.
The man, Asiwaju Tinubu who was once the executive governor of Lagos state from 1999 to 2007 and who was quite instrumental to Buhari’s emergence as the President of Nigeria is now contesting for the seat of the President of Nigeria under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu wasn’t the only presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, of course. He went against thirteen other aspirants of his party to win the presidential ticket.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu got 1,271 votes from the delegates of his party to win the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket to get a chance to contest for the seat of the President come next year.
The race for the Presidential seat is looking rather tough considering the lineup of contestants and Asiwaju Tinubu’s chances of winning the election come February 2024 will depend on several factors such as the capacity of his running mate, his campaign coordinator, youth leader, etc.
Tinubu’s choice of running mate raised a lot of brows and dust a few weeks ago, as a great number of Nigerians don’t seem to like the idea of a Muslim-Muslim ticket on the ballot for the presidency.
According to well-meaning Nigerians, his choice of a running mate does not show any form of fairness or equality towards members of the other major religion in Nigeria, which is Christianity. From this point, it would seem that he is not the Nigerian Christians’ favorite to win, but we can’t be too sure yet.
The NBA’s Conference
Just yesterday, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) held its conference with the theme ‘Bold Transitions’.
The top three presidential candidates were invited, Asiwaju Tinubu being one of them. Tinubu did not show up, but had his running mate represent him, a move considered by most Nigerians to be a ‘red flag’.
A Twitter user even tweeted, ‘Tinubu having his running mate represent him at the NBA conference is a red flag for me. Nigeria doesn’t need a leader in proxy’.
His supporters have made efforts to defend the decision of their party’s flag bearer, saying there’s nothing wrong with it.
